The Tripoli Social Council has issued an urgent warning to the Government of National Accord (GNA), demanding immediate action to address rapidly deteriorating living conditions and public service failures before mounting public anger boils over into widespread civil unrest.
In a formal statement, the civic body urged executive authorities to present practical, transparent solutions backed by clear timelines to resolve severe power outages, skyrocketing prices for food and clean drinking water, and a precarious security environment across the capital.
The council’s stark warning follows a series of widespread public demonstrations that recently erupted across multiple neighborhoods in the Libyan capital. Angry residents denounced what they termed an untenable daily situation, blocking key government institutions, service facilities, and local bank branches along the main highway, as well as throughout the heavily populated districts of Tajoura and Souq Al-Jumaa. Demonstrators called for the immediate resignation of all current political leadership and governing institutions, demanding comprehensive solutions to restore basic civic stability.
Highlighting the risk of further escalation, the Social Council warned that inaction would only deepen public frustration, potentially sparking broader street protests that could destabilize Tripoli and threaten the security of the entire nation. While urging government officials to act responsibly, the council also appealed to citizens to exercise restraint and channel their grievances peacefully without damaging public infrastructure or endangering public safety. Reaffirming that peaceful assembly is protected under national law, the council expressed its readiness to participate in community initiatives aimed at fostering constructive dialogue, easing economic hardship, and preserving social cohesion.
