A lightning strike has killed six members of the same family in Maracha District of Uganda including four children during a heavy downpour on Saturday morning.
The incident occurred between 3:00a.m and 4:00 a.m., according to local Police report. The severe bolt ignited a blaze that engulfed a grass-thatched home, leaving no survivors.
Maracha District Police Commander Taban Swaib told the media that the police response team secured the scene shortly after the disaster.
According to local authorities, the lightning strike triggered a fire that rapidly engulfed the house.
At the time of the incident, all six members of the family were asleep inside the house and were unable to escape,” he said.
The fire spread quickly and consumed the structure and its occupants before any rescue could be made, he added.
The bodies of the victims were retrieved from the scene for postmortem examination and later laid to rest.
