Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema personally welcomed his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, at Leon-M’ba International Airport on Sunday afternoon.
The French President was greeted not only with full military protocol but also by a large, enthusiastic crowd that created a scene of “great fanfare.”
According to the Gabonese Press Agency, the presidential plane landed precisely at 5:00 p.m. The official ceremony was characterized by strict protocol, including the playing of national anthems, military honors, and a parade. Following a review of the troops, President Macron approached the large crowd, whose festive spirit was heightened by performances from local dance groups.
The presidential motorcade’s journey from the airport was met with thousands of people lining the road, cheering loudly and waving French and Gabonese flags, banners, and portraits of both leaders.
President Macron, seated in the back of his slightly lowered limousine, spent a significant amount of time greeting the people who had gathered to honor his arrival. Before heading to his residence, he also held a warm exchange with members of the Gabonese government and other assembled dignitaries.
This visit, the first by President Macron since the election of Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, is viewed as highly significant. The official agenda includes a crucial one-on-one meeting between the two heads of state. President Macron is accompanied by a large delegation composed of ministers, business leaders, and military officials, underscoring the broad scope of planned bilateral discussions.
