The Malian Armed Forces General Staff on Wednesday reported a tragic incident that left several people dead and others injured in an operational zone, urging the public to comply with safety measures governing the use of high-powered motorcycles.
In a statement issued on October 14, 2026, the military said preliminary information indicated that the deceased and injured had been travelling on high-powered motorcycles between two localities.
The exact circumstances of the incident are still being established, the statement said, adding that further information would be released once the facts had been confirmed.
In response to the tragedy, the military command expressed its condolences to the bereaved families and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
The General Staff also recalled Interministerial Order No. 2026-1312 of June 3, 2026, which suspends the use of motorcycles with engine capacities of 125 cc or more outside major urban centres.
The measure is intended to address security requirements in operational areas and reduce the risks faced by civilians in regions where military operations are ongoing.
The military authorities urged the public to strictly observe the regulations in force. They also called on administrative and local authorities, village chiefs, community leaders, and organisers of fairs and markets to step up public information and awareness campaigns.
Reaffirming that civilian protection remains a priority, the General Staff stressed the need for greater vigilance and cooperation from all stakeholders to prevent further tragedies.
