Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa is in Moscow for the 3rd Russia-Africa Summit, a high-level gathering expected to bring together African leaders and senior Russian officials to discuss trade, investment and other issues of common interest.
Mnangagwa arrived in the Russian capital on Monday and was received by Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Georgy Borisenko and Zimbabwe’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Amon Murwira.
The summit is expected to serve as a platform for Russia and African nations to deepen cooperation across a range of sectors, with discussions focusing on strengthening economic ties and identifying new opportunities for development partnerships.
Among the key themes on the agenda are trade and investment, food security, artificial intelligence, digital transformation and energy cooperation, including nuclear energy.
The discussions come as African countries seek to diversify international partnerships and attract investment to support industrialisation and economic growth.
President Mnangagwa is attending the summit in his capacity as Chairperson of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa, a role expected to place regional trade and economic integration issues at the centre of his engagements.
The third edition of the summit comes amid growing efforts by Moscow and African governments to expand partnerships in strategic sectors and increase trade and investment flows between Russia and the continent.
The Zimbabwean leader is also expected to hold bilateral talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on areas of mutual interest as well as meet members of the Zimbabwean community residing in Russia.
