Morocco is participating in the third Russia-Africa Summit, which opened on Wednesday, October 28, in Moscow, with representatives from African member states of the United Nations in attendance.
King Mohammed VI is represented at the event by the head of government, Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri.
The kingdom’s delegation to the two-day summit, held under the theme “For Peace, Security, and
Development,” also includes Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and Morocco’s Ambassador to Russia, Lotfi Bouchaara.
The proceedings of the summit and economic forum opened that same day in the Russian capital, with the participation of representatives from African countries that are members of the UN.
The 3rd Russia-Africa Summit aims to strengthen cooperation between Russia and African states in several strategic sectors, including trade, investment, energy, agriculture, and technology.
It follows on from the summits held in Sochi in 2019 and in St. Petersburg in 2023, against a backdrop marked by the desire of Moscow and its African partners to expand their cooperation in various fields.
On the sidelines of the foreign ministers’ meeting, Bourita held one-on-one talks with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov.
This bilateral meeting is part of a broader diplomatic agenda, in which direct contacts between officials from participating countries aim to address issues of mutual interest, whether political, economic, or related to multilateral cooperation.
