Morocco has organized the first “Africa Day” festival in Las Palmas, bringing together various diasporas to celebrate the continent’s rich cultural diversity.
The inaugural edition of the “Africa Day” festival took place on Saturday in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. It was an initiative by the Moroccan Consulate General, in partnership with the city hall and the Casa África institution. This pioneering celebration in Las Palmas underscores Morocco’s commitment to consolidating its unifying role among African diasporas residing in Europe.
The event saw the participation of representatives from several sub-Saharan African countries, including Cameroon, Ghana, Senegal, Gambia, and Guinea-Conakry. The festival’s program was diverse, featuring fashion, painting, and photography exhibitions, lively musical performances, and tastings of various African culinary specialties.
According to a press release sent to APA, this initiative aimed to celebrate Africa’s cultural diversity while fostering synergies between the African communities living in the Canary Islands. The Moroccan Consul General in Las Palmas, Fatiha El Kamouri, highlighted the event’s importance as a vehicle for rapprochement, reaffirming the Kingdom’s continuous commitment to solidarity, peace, and coexistence within the archipelago.
