Nadia Fettah Alaoui was named Minister of the Year for Economy at the African Banker Awards 2025 in Abidjan on Wednesday.
The Moroccan minister was praised for her policies promoting sustainable investment.
According to the African Development Bank, named Minister of the Year for Economy, Fettah Alaoui has strengthened Morocco’s investment climate with her macroeconomic policies and reforms.
The awards ceremony took place on the sidelines of the AfDB’s annual meetings, during the African Banker Awards 2025 in Abidjan.
Fettah Alaoui has been Minister of Finance in the government of Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch since 2021.
Born in 1971 in Rabat, she previously built a career in the business world. Before her political
career, she worked at the international consulting firm Arthur Andersen, then as Group Managing Director of Sanlam Pan Africa. She also served in Saad Eddine El Othmani’s government as Minister of Tourism.
In 2018, she was named CEO of the Year by the Africa CEO Forum in Abidjan. She is a member of the National Rally of Independents (RNI) and studied at HEC Paris.
In addition to Fettah Alaoui, other African leaders were also honoured.
Patricia Ojangole of the Uganda Development Bank received the Banker of the Year award. The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria was recognised as the Best Central Banker, and Idrissa Nassa of Coris Bank International received a Lifetime Achievement Award.
