The Nigerian Government has condemned Israel’s preemptive military strike on Iran, which has triggered a dangerous escalation of hostilities between the two Middle Eastern powers.
According to the statement issued on Saturday by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, spokesperson for Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nigeria has expressed deep concern over the growing conflict and called for an immediate cessation of hostilities.
The statement highlighted the grave consequences of the ongoing missile and aerial exchanges between Iran and Israel and warned that the continued cycle of retaliation poses a serious threat not only to civilian populations in both countries, but also to regional stability and global security.
“Nigeria urges both parties to exercise utmost restraint in the interest of regional and global peace,” the statement said.
“The continued cycle of retaliation not only endangers civilian lives but threatens to plunge the broader Middle East into further instability, with implications for international security and economic development.”
Reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to peaceful coexistence and multilateral diplomacy, the Nigerian government called for dialogue over confrontation and appealed to the international community, particularly the United Nations Security Council, to take urgent steps toward de-escalation and conflict resolution.
“Nigeria stands ready to support all genuine efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions and promoting peace in the region,” the statement added.
