Nigerian troops have foiled an ambush by suspected Boko Haram militants along the Buni Gari–Buratai road in Borno State, the army said earlier this week.
Troops of the 27th Task Force Brigade, under Sector 2 of Operation Hadin Kai, encountered the militants while conducting a routine patrol along the route. The troops returned fire, forcing the attackers to withdraw from the area.
Reinforcements were subsequently deployed to secure the ambush site and conduct further clearance operations. Several makeshift camps used by the militants as temporary staging and holding areas were discovered and dismantled.
The troops recovered a motorcycle, bicycles, a magazine, ammunition and rocket-propelled grenades.
No soldiers were wounded during the operation, although several military vehicles sustained damage during the engagement, according to a statement signed by Captain Mohammed Goni, acting military intelligence officer at the headquarters of the North-East Task Force Brigade.
The army said its troops were continuing patrols and security operations under Operation Hadin Kai to disrupt terrorist activities and protect communities across the region.
