Organizers have officially unveiled the medals for the World Athletics Race Walking Team Championships Brasília 2026 during a ceremony held in the Brazilian capital on Saturday, March 14.
With the competition set to begin on April 12, the unveiling marks a final countdown for the elite athletes preparing to compete in one of the premier events on the World Athletics circuit.
The medals feature a design deeply rooted in Brazil’s cultural and architectural heritage, incorporating intricate reliefs of Brasília’s iconic monuments. The artwork specifically pays homage to the legacy of architect Oscar Niemeyer and urban planner Lúcio Costa, whose modernist vision for the city—inaugurated in 1960—is reflected in the awards’ aesthetic.
Jointly organized by the Brazilian Athletics Confederation and World Athletics, the championships will gather the world’s top race walking specialists in less than a month. As the city prepares for the April 12 start date, these medals stand as a symbol of both the modern history of Brasília and the peak of athletic achievement in the discipline.
