Morocco is calling for strengthened international cooperation to address cross-border threats.
The kingdom advocates for an approach based on enhanced international cooperation against cross-border networks during the 15th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention, held in Abu Dhabi.
The Moroccan delegation emphasized the need for a collective response to the growing interconnection between organized crime networks and terrorist groups operating in the Sahel-Maghreb region.
Moroccan representatives highlighted that illicit trafficking, clandestine financial networks, and the cross-border movement of weapons have become major drivers of regional instability. Under this
framework, criminal organisations exploit institutional weaknesses in certain territories to expand activities that extend far beyond national borders.
The delegation called for increased intelligence sharing, judicial cooperation, and coordination mechanisms among states to better address threats that have become multidimensional. Moroccan authorities believe that combating these networks can no longer be managed solely at the national level.
This stance is part of a broader security cooperation strategy developed by Rabat with various African and international partners.
The kingdom consistently highlights the link between security, economic development, and regional stability as complementary pillars of a sustainable response to the challenges facing the Sahel.
Through this intervention, Morocco reaffirms its commitment to multilateral efforts aimed at strengthening collective security against organizations whose adaptability continues to pose a major challenge for states in the region.
