APA- Kigali (Rwanda) – Rwanda is considering airlifting its citizens living in Sudan amidst ongoing fighting there, local media reported over the weekend quoting diplomatic sources.
Reports said that the Rwandan Diplomatic Mission in Sudan has requested Rwandans living in the country to prioritise their safety and share information about their whereabouts.
In a statement, the mission noted that it is closely monitoring the ongoing unrest and security forces activity in Sudan and “urges all Rwandan nationals to prioritize their safety by remaining indoors.”
It further asked them to report their current location or share any relevant security incident by means of phone lines.
Countries have struggled to repatriate their citizens amid deadly clashes that have killed more than 400 people so far.
With Sudan’s main international airport closed, foreign countries have ordered their citizens to simply shelter in place until they can figure out evacuation plans.
