Senegal’s national team coach, Cheikh Sarr, unveiled on Saturday, March 7, the final roster of players selected to compete in the 2026 Women’s Basketball World Cup qualifiers.
Thirteen players have been called up to represent the Lionesses at the qualifying tournament scheduled for March 11-17 in San Juan, the capital of Puerto Rico.
This selection follows several days of preparation during which the coaching staff evaluated a larger group of players. Initially composed of eighteen pre-selected players, the list was narrowed down to thirteen who will represent Senegal in this international competition.
For these upcoming matches, the Senegalese coach has chosen to rely largely on the core of the team that participated in the 2025 Women’s Afrobasket.
Captain Yacine Diop will lead the group, supported notably by center Victorine Thiaw, while the experienced Nene Awa Ndiaye is also among the key players selected.
The roster is completed by Marie Diame, Sabou Ndiaye Gueye, Ndioma Kane, Lena Timera, Fatou Pouye, Mathilde Aicha Diop, Khadija Faye, Sokhna Ndiaye, Aminata Ly, and Mame Khoudia Fall.
Senegal will compete in Group B of the qualifying tournament and will face several major nations in women’s basketball, including the United States and Spain. Italy, New Zealand, and the host country, Puerto Rico, also complete this group.
The 2026 Women’s Basketball World Cup will take place in Berlin, Germany, and will bring together the best national teams on the planet.
