The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has noted the expression of interest from Burkina Faso, Mali, and
Niger to jointly host the 2032 Africa Cup of Nations (AfCON).
This step allows the three countries to continue the official bidding process, according to a statement from the Nigerien Football Federation (FENIFOOT).
According to FENIFOOT, this validation complies with Article 7.3 of the CAF Bidding Regulations. The federations of the three member countries of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) are thus considered to have fulfilled the requirement to submit an expression of interest.
This recognition paves the way for the continuation of the official process for awarding the hosting rights for the 2032 Africa Cup of Nations (AfCON). The decision was finalised at a working meeting held on July 18 in New York.
It brought together CAF President Patrice Motsepe and the presidents of the football federations of Burkina
Faso, Mali, and Niger.
During the talks, the CAF President acknowledged the shared ambition of the three ESA member states to jointly host the competition. He encouraged them to continue their efforts while respecting the established procedures.
The Nigerien Football Federation (FENIFOOT) welcomed this development.
It believes this reflects the three countries’ commitment to pooling their resources to host an AfCON that meets international standards.
The Nigerien football federation also stated that it will continue working with its counterparts in Burkina Faso and Mali to prepare the bidding dossier, according to the statement.
