Senegal has lifted the measure freezing the importation of carrots in order to cope with the drop in stocks available on the national market and the rise in consumer prices.
This is according to the Ministry of Industry and Commerce.
In a circular made public Thursday, the Senegalese Ministry of Trade specifies that the decision to lift the freeze on carrot imports follows a meeting of the Inter-profession (IPCA), held on October 14 in the premises of the Market Regulation Agency (ARM), to examine the situation.
Entering into force on December 10, 2025, the freezing measure allowed local production to cover the needs of the national market for ten months.
However, the sharp reduction in stocks led to a significant increase in prices for consumers, justifying the resumption of imports, according to the authorities.
The ministry nevertheless emphasises that import authorisations remain subject to quotas and are valid until November 15, 2026, the strict deadline.
This decision aims to strengthen the availability of carrots on the Senegalese market, while adapting regulatory measures to supply needs.
