Zambia’s electoral body says production of ballot papers is on schedule following a tour of the printing press for its Dubai-based contractor, Al Ghurair Printing Company on Wednesday.
The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) said it remains on course to complete the printing, packaging and airfreight of ballot papers to the country by 28 July ahead of polling day on 13 August.
ECZ Commissioner Zevyanji Sinkala said the commission is working to ensure all ballot papers are produced by the end of July to allow adequate time for delivery and distribution before voters go to the polls.
During a tour of Al Ghurair’s printing facility in Dubai, the company’s general manager, Lakshmanan Ganapathy, said serialisation of presidential ballot papers has been completed.
He also reported that parliamentary ballot papers for 75 constituencies, representing about 2.2 million ballots, have already been printed.
Ganapathy revealed that the packaging of ballot papers and election materials by polling station has started, marking the next stage before the materials are transported to Zambia for distribution ahead of election day.
