The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has introduced body cameras, drone technology and 24-hour WhatsApp tip lines as part of a drive to modernise policing, tighten accountability and improve how residents access police services.
Police said the equipment will help strengthen crime prevention by enabling quicker information sharing and more efficient reporting of incidents.
Body cameras are intended to record police interactions while drones will support crowd monitoring and search operations.
ZRP also rolled out digital channels that allow the public to report crime and share information without having to visit stations.
Residents also expressed support for the new reporting options, particularly the 24-hour WhatsApp numbers provided for crime tips and requests for assistance.
They said the service makes it easier to report incidents and seek help, reducing the need for physical visits to police stations during emergencies.
