Gambian President Adama Barrow presided over the opening of the African Caucus 2026 on Monday in Banjul, a high-level meeting bringing together finance ministers, central bank governors, and international partners to harmonise African positions on global financial governance reforms.
The event opened at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Center in Banjul and also brought together representatives from the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund.
Participants will examine ways to strengthen regional cooperation and amplify a unified African voice in discussions on reforming the global financial architecture. The work will also focus on strategies to strengthen the economic resilience of African countries to external shocks, in a context marked by the challenges of development financing, debt, and climate change.
The African Caucus provides a forum for dialogue among African member countries of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to coordinate their positions on key international economic and financial issues.
