The inaugural African Impact Speakers’ Fair (SAFOI) was held on Saturday, August 23, 2025, in Abidjan, with the goal of promoting public speaking and showcasing talented African speakers.
The event brought together speakers, coaches, and students to discuss the theme: “Youth, Leadership, and Impact: Public Speaking as a Driver of Transformation.”
The fair’s Commissioner General, Diarrassassouba Abdoulaye, stated that SAFOI was created from the belief that African youth hold the potential for significant social and economic transformation. He views public speaking as a crucial tool for unlocking this potential. For Diarrassouba, mastering this skill is essential for everyone, regardless of their profession, as it allows individuals to better promote themselves and their abilities.
He described SAFOI as more than just an event; it aims to be a “school, a breeding ground, a source of inspiration” for young Africans who want to contribute to the continent’s progress. He urged attendees to use their voices to “build, enlighten, and inspire” and to seize the opportunity to learn, express themselves, and convince others.
The event featured a panel discussion on “Public Speaking as a Lever for Leadership Among Young Africans.” The panelists emphasized the importance of combining authenticity and intentionality to be an impactful speaker. They explained that authenticity comes from speaking from the heart without trying to imitate others.
According to the speakers, becoming an impactful voice requires personal growth, a commitment to one’s values, and the ability to convey a transformative message. Public speaking, they noted, is not merely a stylistic exercise but a powerful way to inspire, influence, and drive change within African society.
The fair also included a second panel on “Public speaking skills and professional integration: a challenge for universities and businesses,” as well as a masterclass on mastering public speaking to create opportunities and an eloquence competition.
