A 45-year-old Chinese man was arrested at Luanda’s 4 de Fevereiro International Airport for attempting to transport a significant amount of undeclared foreign currency, Angolan police announced on Monday, August 25, 2025.
The arrest occurred on August 23 as the individual was boarding a Qatar Airways flight to Doha. During a routine baggage check, customs officers found $11,600 and €1,930 hidden in a black backpack. Under Angolan law, travelers must declare any foreign currency exceeding a certain amount. The suspect failed to do so.
He is currently in preventive detention, and legal proceedings have been initiated.
