Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye received Qatari investor Dr. Khalid bin Mohamed Al-Attiyah on Wednesday, September 9, to explore potential foreign direct investment opportunities across Senegal’s energy, mining, and agricultural sectors.
Al-Attiyah, the chief executive officer of Thirty-Five Investment Holding and a former deputy prime minister of Qatar, expressed his firm’s interest in committing capital to hydrocarbons, mineral extraction, and food security initiatives—three pillars central to Senegal’s national economic transformation agenda.
The high-level talks took place shortly after Senegalese authorities secured a staff-level agreement with the International Monetary Fund, a financial milestone that Al-Attiyah cited as a strong signal of macroeconomic stability and investor confidence. As Dakar works to restore public finance sustainability while accelerating private-sector-led development, the government aims to channel incoming foreign capital into high-yield, job-creating projects. The meeting underscores expanding economic ties between Dakar and Doha, reflecting heightened international interest in Senegal’s expanding natural resource landscape and national food sovereignty objectives.
