Gathered in Bobo-Dioulasso for an awareness workshop on combating mining fraud, nearly 700 trainee judicial police officers (OPJ) were briefed on the results achieved by the National Anti-Gold Fraud Brigade (BNAF), which has processed 93 cases and dismantled 25 illegal gold buying and selling offices over the past three years.
The National Anti-Gold Fraud Brigade (BNAFburki) announced that it opened 93 cases related to fraud in gold marketing between 2023 and 2026, resulting in the recovery of over 10 billion CFA francs in fines and the seizure of 78.08 kilograms of gold.
These results were presented at an awareness workshop held on May 29 and 30 in Bobo-Dioulasso for nearly 700 trainee Judicial Police Officers (OPJ) from the National Training Center for Gendarmerie Non-Commissioned Officers (CNQSOG).
According to the National Anti-Fraud Brigade (BNAF), the operations also led to the dismantling of 25 illegal gold buying and selling offices, illustrating the extent of the fraudulent networks operating
in the mining sector.
During the discussions, the Brigade’s leaders reiterated that gold fraud, money laundering, and illicit financial flows pose threats to public revenue and the country’s economic security.
They emphasised the strategic role of the OPJ in detecting and prosecuting these offenses, while advocating for strengthened cooperation among stakeholders in the control chain to better protect
Burkina Faso’s mineral resources.
