Malian Prime Minister Abdoulaye Maiga received Mike Cinnamond, the new CEO of B2Gold, in Bamako on March 17, 2026, to discuss the ongoing expansion and consolidation of the company’s mining footprint in the country.
Accompanied by the Minister of Mines, Amadou Keïta, the executive provided updates on the flagship Fekola mine and the progress of several high-priority infrastructure projects. A central point of the dialogue was the recent authorization for a new solar farm designed to power mining facilities, alongside strategies to secure consistent fuel supplies for the complex operations.
B2Gold also used the meeting to advocate for the development of the Menankoto South project, formally requesting government support to secure the necessary operating permits. This site is viewed as a critical component of the group’s future growth, offering significant untapped potential to complement existing production. The Fekola complex remains a cornerstone of the Malian economy, having generated approximately $1.74 billion in revenue in 2025 with a cumulative output exceeding four million ounces. For the 2026 calendar year, B2Gold forecasts continued strong performance with production targets set between 410,000 and 460,000 ounces.
Prime Minister Maiga reaffirmed Mali’s status as an attractive destination for large-scale mining investment while emphasizing the need for deeper collaboration with national technical services. He specifically urged the company to prioritize “local content” initiatives to ensure that the wealth generated by the mining sector translates into tangible benefits for Malian citizens and businesses. The meeting concludes a series of high-level engagements aimed at aligning B2Gold’s corporate strategy with Mali’s national development goals.
