In September 2026, Burkina Faso purchased a ten-story building in Rome to house its embassy and consular services, the Burkinabe government announced, describing the purchase as an investment made with its own funds.
Burkina Faso’s Minister of Communication and Culture, Pingdwende Gilbert Ouedraogo, who also serves as government spokesperson, visited the diplomatic mission’s new premises on Friday during a trip to Italy dedicated to paying tribute to former President Thomas Sankara.
“It is a 10-story building, acquired with the government’s own funds without a loan and paid for in a single installment here in Italy,” said Mr. Ouedraogo, as quoted in a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The building houses Burkina Faso’s embassy and consular services in Italy. The purchase price was not disclosed.
The minister also visited Rome’s third district, where he met with the district president, Paolo Emilio Marchionne.
He expressed Burkina Faso’s gratitude to the Italian authorities for dedicating a park to Thomas Sankara, who served as president from 1983 to 1987 and became a leading figure in Pan-Africanism.
Mr. Ouedraogo then visited Thomas Sankara Park to observe preparations for the tribute event titled “Sankara, the Echo of the World,” organised for Saturday, October 24, by the Burkinabe authorities.
The programme included, among other things, a public lecture, a performance by the Burkina Faso Presidential Orchestra, and a tasting of Burkinabe dishes.
