A team of young Burkinabe students from the GOBELAB association, comprising middle and high school pupils, has won the gold medal at the World Robotics Championship, Burkina Faso’s Ministry of Basic Education announced on Thursday.
The award-winning students were received on Wednesday in Ouagadougou by the Minister of Basic Education, Literacy and Promotion of National Languages, Jacques Sosthène Dingara, to present their achievement and discuss their plans for upcoming international competitions.
According to the ministry, the Burkinabe team outperformed delegations from 190 countries, securing the gold medal and placing Burkina Faso at the top of the global robotics competition.
The GOBELAB delegation also introduced the next generation of young participants who will represent the country at future international events and outlined its ambitions to promote robotics and digital technologies among students.
GOBELAB’s Director of Strategy and Programs, Fabrice Toé, said the meeting also provided an opportunity to seek guidance from the authorities on strengthening support mechanisms for young talent in the digital sector.
Minister Jacques Sosthène Dingara praised a performance that “brings honor to Burkina Faso” and demonstrates the potential of the country’s youth. He reaffirmed his ministry’s commitment to supporting initiatives that foster innovation, strengthen digital skills, and prepare learners for the jobs of the future.
Founded in 2019, GOBELAB operates in the field of information and communication technologies, with a particular focus on educational robotics and training young people in digital skills.
