Burkina Faso’s Prime Minister, Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo, left Ouagadougou on Monday to attend the third Russia-Africa Summit, scheduled for October 28-29 in Moscow, where he will represent President Captain Ibrahim Traoré.
Burkina Faso aims to make its partnership with Russia a lever for economic transformation and for strengthening its sovereignty.
Leading the Burkinabe delegation, the head of government will present projects focused on local processing of natural resources, mastery of technology and youth training, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.
Following Sochi in 2019 and St Petersburg in 2023, this third edition will bring African leaders together around Russian President Vladimir Putin to assess implementation of the 2023-2026 action plan and set the next priorities for their cooperation.
A final declaration and a new action plan for 2027-2029 are due to be adopted at the end of the proceedings.
Talks will cover trade, investment, food and energy security, and state sovereignty, among other topics. A parallel Economic and Humanitarian Forum will also address industrialisation, technology transfers, artificial intelligence, peaceful uses of nuclear energy, health and education.
On the sidelines of the summit, Ouédraogo is scheduled to hold bilateral talks and meetings devoted to partnerships in security and development for Burkina Faso.
The trip comes amid closer ties between Ouagadougou and Moscow, marked, according to the Prime Minister’s Office, by the signing on February 12, 2026, of an agreement setting out the foundations of relations between the two countries.
