Burundian President Evariste Ndayishimiye met on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, with Dr. Zarau Wendeline Kibwe, the new Executive Director representing Burundi on the World Bank’s Board of Directors.
The meeting, held at the Gitega Palace, underscored the shared commitment of both parties to strengthen their cooperation in crucial development sectors.
President Ndayishimiye lauded the quality of the existing partnership with the World Bank and expressed his strong desire for its further enhancement, particularly in support of implementing Burundi’s ambitious “Burundi Vision Emerging 2040 – Developing 2060.” He also extended his best wishes for success to Dr. Kibwe, who hails from Tanzania and is mandated to represent 22 countries across East and Southern Africa.
The discussions highlighted several strategic priorities for this reinforced partnership, including a key focus to empower Burundi’s young population, a critical infrastructure initiative aimed at boosting regional connectivity and trade, and leveraging Burundi’s natural wealth for sustainable economic benefit.
Both President Ndayishimiye and Dr. Kibwe concurred that these projects are essential for bringing sustainable and accelerated development to Burundi.
