Cooperation between the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) Police and the national Internal Security Forces (ISF) is expanding through joint operational patrols, specialized capacity-building programs, and targeted community outreach.
Marking the International Day of Police Cooperation on September 7, MINUSCA detailed how collaborative efforts in Bangui and surrounding prefectures are helping to improve public safety and reinforce local security frameworks. Over the 2025–2026 period, security teams completed more than 10,000 foot and vehicular patrols across urban areas, border corridors, and remote communities, leading residents in neighborhoods like Bangui to report noticeable decreases in local crime, while also reassuring voters ahead of upcoming elections in regions like Berbérati.
Beyond routine security presence, the partnership embraces emergency management, technical training, and institutional infrastructure support. Demonstrating this operational agility, UN police units from Indonesia and Egypt intervened during late July 2026 to contain a severe fire in Bangui’s PK5 district, protecting surrounding homes and commercial properties. To professionalize local forces, MINUSCA facilitated specialized instruction for 117 police officers and gendarmes covering crime scene management and advanced investigative methods, alongside funding the construction and renovation of nine police stations and gendarmerie posts nationwide.
The mission also prioritizes human rights awareness, public protection, and community trust-building. In July 2026, UN officers partnered with civic leaders in Damara to assess risks surrounding sexual exploitation, while joint educational campaigns on sexual and gender-based violence reached nearly 400 students across schools in the capital. By combining active field presence, infrastructure investment, and preventive education, the ongoing collaboration between MINUSCA and national security authorities serves as a foundational pillar for sustainable stability and enhanced public trust across the Central African Republic.
