Senegal advanced its diplomatic engagements on Monday, September 7, as Minister of African Integration, Foreign Affairs and Senegalese Abroad Cheikh Niang received copies of the credentials for new representatives from Nigeria and the European Union.
The official protocol ceremony hosted in Dakar welcomed Abdussalam Habu Zayyad, Nigeria’s ambassador-designate, alongside Aude Maio-Coliche, the designated ambassador of the European Union, ahead of their formal presentations to President Bassirou Diomaye Faye.
The meetings focused on reinvigorating key regional and international partnerships essential to Senegal’s broader foreign policy objectives. Discussions between Minister Niang and the Nigerian envoy centered on deepening bilateral ties and exploring new areas of mutual interest to give fresh momentum to relations between Dakar and Abuja. As two key West African nations, Senegal and Nigeria aim to leverage their historic ties to drive regional cooperation and broader continental integration efforts across the region.
Parallel talks with the EU representative underscored Dakar’s commitment to sustaining a strong, dynamic relationship with Brussels based on constructive dialogue and shared growth. Both parties expressed a clear ambition to consolidate existing programs and expand cooperation across strategic economic and social sectors. By strengthening ties with both a major regional partner and a primary international institution, Senegal continues to position its foreign policy as an active driver of regional stability, international collaboration, and economic development.
