The Adaptation Fund on Monday, October 26, approved $25.25 million in funding for Chad and Togo under the ECOVERSE project, with half of the amount allocated to Chad to strengthen communities’ resilience to climate change.
Of the grant funding, Chad will receive $12.625 million, according to information released by Chadian authorities.
Minister of the Environment, Fisheries and Sustainable Development Hassan Bakhit Djamous welcomed the new mobilisation of climate finance for his country. He praised President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno’s climate diplomacy, saying the efforts undertaken were yielding results.
The minister also congratulated the various stakeholders who contributed to the advocacy efforts that led to the decision, describing it as a step forward for climate change adaptation and sustainable development in Chad.
In March 2026, the Green Climate Fund had already approved $25 million in funding for the country. Chadian authorities aim to mobilise $100 million in the short term to support efforts to address the effects of climate change.
The funding approved by the Adaptation Fund is expected to help strengthen local communities’ capacity to cope with climate risks and support sustainable development initiatives.
