Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty met on Friday in Barcelona, Spain, with the European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas.
The meeting, held on the sidelines of the 10th Regional Forum of Foreign Ministers of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), focused on bilateral relations and recent regional developments, according to a statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“The Egyptian minister welcomed the outcomes of the first Egypt-EU Summit in Brussels, highlighting their reflection of a shared will to strengthen the strategic and comprehensive partnership between the two sides,” ministry spokesperson Tamim Khallaf said.
Abdelatty also praised EU financial support and reaffirmed Egypt’s aim to attract more European investment, facilitate access for Egyptian exports to EU markets, and strengthen partnerships with the private sector.
Talks also covered regional developments, notably the critical situation in the Gaza Strip, with Abdelatty reporting on Cairo’s intensive efforts to maintain the Sharm El-Sheikh peace agreement. He stressed the importance of deploying an international stabilisation force in Gaza under a peacekeeping mandate, reaffirmed Egypt’s position on the unity of the Palestinian territories of the West Bank and Gaza, and rejected any measures that could entrench the division or undermine a two-state solution.
Regarding the Sudanese crisis, Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s consistent support for Sudan’s security, stability, unity, and sovereignty, calling for enhanced coordination of regional and international efforts to establish humanitarian security corridors for the benefit of the Sudanese people and their national institutions.
