The Southern Liberation Operations Room (SLOR) has rejected the political structures supported by Marshal Khalifa Haftar’s forces in Fezzan and called on the international community to intervene in the security and humanitarian situation in southern Libya.
SLOR as an armed group operating in Fezzan, denounced the initiatives of forces affiliated with Marshal Khalifa Haftar, which it claims are aimed at politically representing southern Libya. SLOR asserted that entities formed “under intimidation and coercion” do not reflect the will of the region’s people.
In a statement, SLOR rejected the legitimacy of the “National and Social Force of Fezzan,” arguing that this structure represents neither the people of Fezzan nor Libyan national interest. The group described it as a body composed of a limited number of individuals receiving support from the military authorities in the east of the country.
The SLOR also accused Marshal Haftar’s forces of seeking to weaken what it calls the “free military movement” in southern Libya. The group further holds them responsible for the deteriorating economic and security situation in the country.
In its statement, the SLOR called on the United Nations and the international community to intervene in the situation in Fezzan. It denounced, in particular, the forced displacement of populations, restrictions on civil liberties, and the imposition of control by force in several areas of southern Libya.
The group claims to have been created in response to the evolving situation in Fezzan and indicates that it will continue its activities until it achieves its objectives, which it describes as the defence of freedom and justice and the end of the military regime in southern Libya.
The allegations made by the SLOR did not elicit an immediate response from Marshal Khalifa Haftar’s forces.
