Rwandan President Paul Kagame received the outgoing European Union Ambassador to Rwanda, Belen Calvo Uyarra, on Wednesday for a farewell visit. Discussions focused on strengthening the partnership between Kigali and the EU in several strategic sectors.
President Kagame received the outgoing European Union Ambassador to Rwanda, Belen Calvo Uyarra, on Tuesday at Urugwiro Village in Kigali. Ms. Uyarra came to bid him farewell at the end of her diplomatic
mission.
During the meeting, the two reviewed the long-standing partnership between Rwanda and the European Union, as well as the progress made in several areas of cooperation, Kigali reported.
Talks covered vaccine manufacturing, peacekeeping operations, the partnership on critical minerals, infrastructure development, investment, education, and environmental protection.
President Kagame and the European diplomat also highlighted the progress made in these sectors and reaffirmed the importance of further strengthening relations between Rwanda and the European Union.
Cooperation between Rwanda and the European Union has intensified in recent years within the framework of the Global Gateway strategy.
On the occasion of Europe Day 2026, the EU delegation indicated that the European Union and its Member States had mobilized more than one billion euros for Rwanda to finance projects in the areas of infrastructure, health, education, climate action, private sector development, and job creation.
The two partners also concluded a memorandum of understanding in February 2024 on sustainable value chains for critical raw materials to promote responsible investment and local processing of minerals.
