Egypt hosted crucial talks on Thursday between various Palestinian groups to discuss the successful implementation of the second phase of the recent Gaza ceasefire agreement.
The discussions, widely reported by Egyptian media, aimed to secure a consensus among the Palestinian factions regarding the next steps of the ceasefire plan proposed by US President Donald Trump to end the conflict in Gaza.
According to Egyptian state-run Al-Qahera News, Egyptian intelligence chief Hassan Rashad met with Palestinian Vice President Hussein al-Sheikh and his counterpart Majed Faraj “as part of Egypt’s efforts to end the crisis in Gaza.”
The news agency reported that a consensus was successfully reached during the meeting to “support and continue the implementation of the Gaza ceasefire agreement.”
These talks are based on a 20-point plan designed to halt the war and ease broader tensions in the Middle East. The first phase of this plan, signed on October 9, 2025, involved an immediate ceasefire and the release of Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners. However, the region has continued to experience periodic tensions and ceasefire violations despite the initial agreement.
