Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi is calling the recent wave of international recognition for an independent Palestinian state a “historic opportunity” to end the decades-long conflict.
Speaking at a conference on the two-state solution in New York, he emphasized that this recognition is not a dream but a necessary step toward peace.
“The recognition of the independent state of Palestine and its realization are not a dream, but an unwavering determination to defend a right for which the Palestinian people have long struggled,” President Al-Sisi wrote on X.
He insisted that a two-state solution is the only viable path to “lasting peace and security” and could lead to more stable cooperation in the Middle East.
The New York conference, co-hosted by France and Saudi Arabia, served as a major platform for the Palestinian cause. At the event, French President Emmanuel Macron formally announced France’s recognition of Palestine, declaring that “the time for peace has come.”
In the wake of France’s decision, countries like the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, and Portugal have also announced their intention to recognize Palestine. These new recognitions bring the total number of UN member states that have recognized Palestine to over 150.
For Egypt, a long-time mediator in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, this moment is particularly significant. Al-Sisi’s statement aligns with Cairo’s broader diplomatic efforts to support the Palestinian cause and strengthen the push for a two-state solution.
