The Egyptian British Chamber of Commerce (EBCC) and the Scottish Africa Business Association (SABA) have signed a memorandum of understanding forging a strategic partnership to enhance trade and investment ties between the two countries.
The agreement, signed on Thursday on the sidelines of the just-ended All-Energy Conference 2025 taking place in Glasgow, commits the two organisations to cooperation in the areas of renewable energy, maritime industries and skills development.
Under the agreement, EBCC and SABA will collaborate on bringing Egyptian business delegations to Scotland, hosting joint webinars and working together during SABA’s flagship Scotland London Africa Week.
In addition, a Scottish trade mission to Egypt is planned for 2026, providing businesses with new market opportunities in a rapidly growing economy.
Egypt, one of Africa’s largest and most influential economies, is investing heavily in green hydrogen, renewable energy and offshore wind projects, creating strong demand for Scottish expertise in energy technologies, engineering and innovation.
As a key maritime hub, Egypt also offers major opportunities for shipbuilding, port development, marine engineering and logistics, with Scotland well-positioned to contribute knowledge and skills.
EBCC chief executive Mark Lawrence hailed the MOU as “the beginning of a promising collaboration between our two organisations.”
“We see significant potential to connect Egyptian and Scottish businesses, share expertise and develop mutually beneficial partnerships across key sectors”
SABA chief operating officer Seona Shand highlighted the potential for collaboration in energy and education, noting Egypt’s ambitious green hydrogen targets and the growing demand for vocational training.
