Three offices at Kwara State University in Illorin, Nigeria have been gutted by an inferno which began on Friday, local media reported on Saturday.
A report by Niaja News suggested that the fire has destroyed official records comprising files, documents and journals and also affected the university’s biology laboratory.
It quoted the Daily Trust as reporting that an unidentified person was behind the cause of the blaze after setting dry shrubland.
According to Hassan Adekunle, a spokesperson of the Kwara State Fire Service, the blaze was eventually contained and other materials saved during the firefighting exercise.
Alabi Muhammed the head of the firefighting unit in Illorin said indiscriminate burning should be discouraged if such incidents are to be prevented in the future.
