A fire broke out late Sunday night at the Senegalese Ministry of Finance and Budget in Dakar, though officials report that the situation was swiftly neutralized.
The blaze, which occurred during the night of February 15–16, 2026, was successfully extinguished by emergency response teams before it could cause significant damage or disrupt national financial operations.
In an official statement released on Monday, the Ministry confirmed that no injuries were reported and praised the “professionalism and responsiveness” of the firefighters whose rapid intervention prevented the fire from spreading further through the administrative premises.
Despite the incident, the Ministry has assured the public that all essential services and operations are continuing as scheduled. While some preventative organizational measures have been implemented within the building, the authorities emphasized that the situation is fully under control. The government has urged citizens and stakeholders to rely exclusively on official updates and to avoid spreading unverified information regarding the cause or impact of the fire.
