Senegalese football is in mourning following the tragic death of Fadiouf Ndiaye, captain of Union Sportive de Ouakam (USO) during the 24th matchday of the championship on Saturday.
Ndiaye, a 28-year-old central defender, collapsed during the match against Oslo FA at the end of the first half, after experiencing severe pain following contact with another player.
Immediately treated by paramedics and taken to hospital, the player unfortunately passed away during the transfer.
According to the club doctor, Fadiouf Ndiaye had no known medical history. The match ended
in a 2-0 victory for US Ouakam, but the victory was heavily overshadowed by the tragic loss.
The Ouakam club paid tribute to its captain in a moving statement:
“Fadiouf passed away following an illness. A disciplined player and a true warrior, he always embodied the love of the jersey. His commitment, his talent, and his pride in being a son of Ouakam will forever remain etched in our history.”
Trained at the club, Fadiouf Ndiaye joined the first team in 2013.
After a spell with Jaraaf in 2017, he returned to US Ouakam to contribute to its return to the top tier of Senegalese domestic football.
The Minister of Youth, Sports, and Culture, Khady Diene Gaye, expressed her deep sadness in an official message:
“It is with immense sorrow that I learned of the passing of Fadiouf Ndiaye. I extend my most sincere condolences to his family, to US Ouakam, and to the entire Senegalese sports community. National
football has lost one of its pillars. May Allah welcome him into His paradise, Firdawsi.”
The player was buried on Sunday, May 18, at the Ouakam cemetery, in the presence of his family, supporters, and many other mourners who had come to pay their last respects.
