Guinea is accelerating its strategy for the local processing of its natural resources.
On Sunday, November 1, 2026, in Gbessia Cite (Conakry), President General Mamadi Doumbouya
inaugurated the Nimba Gold Refinery (NGR), billed as Africa’s largest gold refinery.
The event, which took place in the presence of the Prime Minister and members of the government, marks a major departure from the long-standing practice of exporting raw gold.
In his opening remarks, the Minister of Mines and Geology, Bouna Sylla, highlighted the expected economic benefits: the creation of local jobs, the transfer of skills, and the strengthening of the gold value chain. He also highlighted the implementation of a stricter regulatory framework to ensure the traceability and transparency of operations.
This new infrastructure aligns directly with the objectives of the Simandou 2040 Program, through which Conakry aims to become a regional centre of excellence for the processing and value-added development of minerals on the continent.
