Morocco has achieved a significant diplomatic victory by being elected to the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), a specialized UN agency.
This election, held during the 42nd ICAO session in Montreal, recognizes the Kingdom’s strong international reputation and the aviation sector’s rapid progress.
Souriya Otmani, Morocco’s Ambassador to Canada, stated that the country’s “resounding election” reflects the credibility and trust it commands internationally. She noted that Morocco has prioritized civil aviation, making major strides in aviation safety, security, air services, and sustainable development, all in line with global standards.
On the sidelines of the event, Morocco and ICAO signed a bilateral cooperation agreement focused on deepening collaboration in safety, security, training, and technical assistance. The agreement was signed by Abdessamad Kayouh, Morocco’s Minister of Transport and Logistics, and Juan Carlos Salazar, ICAO Secretary General.
Looking ahead, Morocco will showcase its growing expertise by hosting the 5th ICAO Global Implementation Support Symposium (GISS) next year in Marrakech, further solidifying its contribution to the advancement of the global civil aviation sector.
