Over 15.8 million citizens have been registered on Morocco’s national voter rolls following an exceptional revision completed ahead of the upcoming September 23 legislative elections.
Voters across the country will head to the polls to elect all 395 members of the House of Representatives, the lower house of Parliament. Demographically, men represent 54% of the electorate while women make up 46%, with urban residents comprising 55% of total voters compared to 45% in rural areas. Age distribution data reveals that citizens aged 60 and older constitute the largest bloc at 29%, followed by middle-aged voters, while young voters between 18 and 24 represent 4% of registered voters.
Local administrative authorities have already initiated the distribution of polling station assignment notices to registered citizens, an effort that will run continuously until the eve of the election. The official campaigning period is scheduled to launch at midnight on Thursday, September 10, 2026, and will draw to a close at midnight on Tuesday, September 22. Under the Moroccan Constitution, King Mohammed VI will appoint the new head of government from the winning political party that secures the largest number of parliamentary seats. The upcoming ballot sees the current governing coalition—led by the National Rally of Independents, the Authenticity and Modernity Party, and the Istiqlal Party—competing against opposition groups including the Justice and Development Party, the Popular Movement, and the Socialist Union of Popular Forces.
