Morocco has delivered military equipment to Liberia and plans to train approximately 140 soldiers in commando operations, to buttress the defence partnership between the two countries.
A Moroccan C-130 military aircraft landed on October 19 at Roberts International Airport, near Monrovia, carrying an initial shipment of vehicles and logistical supplies for the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL), according to Liberian press reports.
Two flights are scheduled between October 19 and 22 to transport the equipment and carry Liberian military personnel who will undergo specialised training in Morocco. The program involves about 140 soldiers and is designed to enhance their operational capabilities, specifically in commando operations.
This initiative falls under the military cooperation agreement signed in Rabat in 2025 between Morocco and Liberia.
The agreement covers areas such as training, technical assistance, and cooperation in the field of military healthcare.
Last September, the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Liberia, Major General Davidson Fayiah Forleh, visited Morocco, where he met with Lieutenant General Mohammed Berrid, Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) and Commander of the Southern Zone.
Their discussions focused on training, technical support, and the implementation of joint programs. A memorandum of understanding regarding military support and capacity building was also signed.
Cooperation between Rabat and Monrovia may extend to air and maritime security.
Morocco intends to support Liberia by training pilots and technicians, as well as by strengthening the capabilities of its coast guard – particularly in the areas of maritime surveillance and the protection of territorial waters.
The two countries also plan for exchanges of medical personnel, specialized treatments, and training at the Mohammed V Military Hospital in Rabat.
These initiatives reflect the desire of both capitals to strengthen their military partnership and expand their cooperation across several defence sectors.
