At the 66th series of meetings of the assemblies of the member states of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Morocco reaffirmed its commitment to positioning intellectual property (IP) as a strategic driver of sustainable development, technological innovation, and economic competitiveness.
Delivering a statement during the plenary session, the Moroccan delegation highlighted the country’s significant progress in strengthening its IP framework, including enhanced protection for patents, trademarks, industrial designs, and geographical indications. The delegation showcased recent legislative reforms and the role of the Moroccan Office of Industrial and Commercial Property (OMPIC) in promoting industrial acceleration, digital transformation, and academic research.
Morocco’s participation comes amid growing global tensions over technological value chains, rising patent-related disputes, and heightened competition over intellectual assets. In this context, the kingdom is advocating for stronger South-South cooperation, equitable access to technology, and greater inclusion of African countries in global IP governance.
On the sidelines of the official sessions, the Moroccan delegation held bilateral meetings with representatives from the European Union, Japan, China, and the African Intellectual Property Organization (OAPI). These engagements aimed to strengthen technical cooperation and knowledge transfer, reinforcing Morocco’s position as a credible actor in multilateral economic diplomacy.
