Talks on strengthening judicial cooperation and partnership between Morocco and Spain were at the heart of a meeting held in Rabat on Thursday between Morocco’s justice minister Abdellatif Ouahbi and Spain’s Minister of the Presidency, Justice and Relations with Parliament, Félix Bolaños.
The meeting, part of a shared commitment to deepen bilateral legal and judicial cooperation, provided an opportunity to explore ways to enhance coordination mechanisms and exchange expertise, in order to meet current challenges and keep pace with rapid developments in the justice sector.
The talks also addressed prospects for expanding the scope of cooperation to cover various judicial areas, particularly civil and criminal matters, as well as improving the handling of cross-border cases and strengthening legal assistance mechanisms between the two countries, according to Moroccan sources.
On this occasion, both sides reaffirmed their determination to consolidate their partnership through stronger institutional coordination, the launch of joint action programs, and the promotion of exchange visits between officials and experts. They also emphasised the need to establish direct and efficient communication channels between Moroccan and Spanish judicial institutions.
Ouahbi highlighted the strength of Morocco–Spain relations and their broad convergence of views on key issues. In the context of preparations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, he announced that a tripartite meeting involving Portugal’s Minister of Justice would be held to sign an agreement governing cooperation among the three co-hosting countries. This initiative forms part of broader efforts to ensure the successful organisation of the global event.
For his part, Bolaños noted that the two countries are currently experiencing “the best moment in their diplomatic, human, economic and cultural relations.”
He added that the 2030 World Cup, to be jointly hosted by three countries across two continents, is not only a sporting event but also a platform embodying the values of tolerance and coexistence, showcasing the richness and diversity of cultures, languages and religions.
He described it as “an exceptional sporting event that will make everyone proud.”
