Morocco has officially designated the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into its national educational framework as a fundamental strategic choice rather than a temporary trend.
Rahma Bourqia, President of the Higher Council for Education, Training, and Scientific Research, announced this shift during the institution’s twelfth General Assembly on Tuesday. She noted that the rapid evolution of AI is fundamentally transforming how knowledge is produced, teaching is practiced, and how modern professions are evolving.
According to Bourqia, this digital transition requires a comprehensive approach that balances technical advancement with societal awareness. The Council identified two primary digital forces currently shaping the lives of young Moroccans: the pervasive influence of social networks on communication and the rise of AI in the dissemination of information. In response, the Council is advocating for a curriculum that prioritizes critical thinking, enabling learners to effectively evaluate and scrutinize results generated by complex algorithms.
The strategic focus also addresses broader economic implications, acknowledging that AI is already reshaping employment, culture, and social relations. To prepare future generations, the Council highlights the necessity of embedding digital skills and AI fundamentals directly into educational curricula. This includes defining specific goals for academic training and scientific research to ensure that the workforce remains competitive in a technology-driven global economy.
To manage this transition responsibly, Morocco is moving toward a dedicated public policy supported by a clear regulatory and ethical framework. Bourqia emphasized the importance of implementing oversight mechanisms to prevent abuses related to unregulated AI use while simultaneously maximizing the technology’s potential to enhance learning. This policy aims to provide students and researchers with the tools to use AI ethically and effectively, ensuring that Morocco’s educational institutions remain at the forefront of global technological standards.
