At the 61st session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, Morocco issued a high-level appeal for the strict application of international law and UN resolutions regarding the occupied Palestinian territories.
Ambassador Omar Zniber, Morocco’s Permanent Representative to the UN, warned of the “continuing deterioration” of the humanitarian situation and emphasized the urgent need to protect civilians under international humanitarian law.
Rabat’s diplomatic position remains centered on a lasting settlement, with the Ambassador specifically welcoming the adoption of Security Council Resolution 2803, which outlines a strategic plan to end the conflict in Gaza. Morocco reaffirmed its commitment to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), pledging continued financial and humanitarian support to stabilize the region and improve living conditions for those affected by the violence.
The statement also took a firm stance against escalations in the West Bank, explicitly denouncing the demolition of homes and the displacement of populations as major drivers of regional instability. Furthermore, Morocco condemned unilateral measures in Jerusalem, which it views as a direct threat to the city’s legal and historical status. Under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, the Kingdom continues to advocate for Jerusalem as a shared space of coexistence for the three monotheistic religions.
Ultimately, Morocco reiterated its long-standing support for a two-state solution based on the June 4, 1967, borders. This includes the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, reinforcing a diplomatic strategy deeply rooted in established United Nations frameworks.
