The Executive Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr. Aminu Maida, has called on the staff of the commission to improve service delivery through prompt responses, accountability and effective collaboration across departments.
Speaking at the commission’s commemoration of the 2026 Customer Service Week at its headquarters in Abuja, Maida emphasised that service excellence should remain central to the NCC’s regulatory responsibilities.
Addressing the theme of week, “Going the Extra Mile,” the NCC chief said that every policy, decision and regulatory intervention by the commission should ultimately improve the experience of stakeholders and support the development of Nigeria’s communications sector.
According to him, the theme should translate into practical actions, including listening carefully to stakeholders, responding promptly to inquiries, communicating decisions clearly and ensuring that issues raised are followed through to resolution.
“Sometimes, it is as simple as helping someone understand the next step, providing an update before they have to ask, or taking responsibility for an issue until it reaches the right person and is addressed,” he said.
Maida said that expectations for efficient, transparent and responsive services had increased in an increasingly digital environment.
He, however, stressed that while technology and systems were important in meeting those expectations, staff judgment, empathy and professionalism remained essential to effective service delivery.
According to him, every inquiry or complaint represents a person seeking an answer, a solution or assurance that their concerns are being taken seriously.
He commended the NCC employees for their contributions across different areas of the commission’s operations, including handling consumer complaints, engaging with licensees, supporting regulatory processes, managing communications and providing internal services.
Maida said that much of the work undertaken by the staff might go unnoticed, but its impact was felt across the commission and among the stakeholders who depended on its services.
He further urged employees to treat every stakeholder with courtesy and respect, uphold the highest standards of integrity and take ownership of their responsibilities.
According to Maida, consistent attention to these principles would help build trust in the commission and strengthen stakeholders’ confidence in its work.
