Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, has resigned from his ministerial position to pursue his political ambition to run for governorship election in Bauchi State in northern Nigeria.
The statement by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Kimiebi Ebienfa, on Monday in Abuja said that “the resignation of the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs is confirmed.”
Local media reports said that the Special Adviser to the Minister on Media and Communications Strategy, Alkasim Abdulkadir, had earlier confirmed Tuggar’s intention to contest for the governorship seat of Bauchi State.
“The minister is interested and aspires to run for the governorship seat of Bauchi State,” Abdulkadir said,
Meanwhile, it was gathered that Tuggar said that he had submitted his resignation letter to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
He also expressed deep gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for giving him the opportunity to serve under the “Renewed Hope Agenda,” and contributing to Nigeria’s foreign policy through the “4D” doctrine.
Tuggar also thanked ministry staff and international partners for their support and collaboration.
The resignation of Tuggar is in compliance with the directive of President Tinubu that ministers and other political officeholders seeking elective positions should resign their appointments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Tuggar, who hails from Udubo in Gamawa Local Government Area of Bauchi State, had previously contested for the position.
